Collecting Original Movie Posters
Collecting original movie posters can be a lot of fun. It is, however, not a hobby for anyone. Originals can be very costly, and not very easy to find.
There are many places on the internet where so-called original posters are being sold. You should not, however, rush out to buy as many of these as you can, because many of them are probably fakes. It would be good to look around on the internet, and go to some websites, in order to learn about how to ensure that you are buying is original. Fake originals can be very good; so good, in fact, that even some of the experts can be fooled.
One good way to help ensure that your posters are genuine, is not to deal with poster shops that sell both real and reprint posters. Go to a specialized shop that only carries original posters - this way there is no conflict of interest. While this is certainly not a guarantee, it is definitely a step that will lessen the likelihood of getting fakes.
Posters Are Expensive
While doing a quick search, a Bond movie was picked out, just to get an idea of what an original movie poster would cost. The movie was called Moonraker, and the star was Roger Moore, in 1979. At this particular website, a very popular one, the poster was selling for $300 - not cheap. This was for a one sheet poster (27" X 40" -standard size, these days).
Posters Need Special Care
Because these posters are so costly, you should know that they need to be treated like an object of art, and worth. It is not recommended that you display them behind glass, but use a lightly tinted plexiglass instead. The posters will eventually stick to the glass, and this, of course, will lessen the quality and value of the poster. The tinting of the plexiglass is to keep out some of the light that will cause it to fade, over time. This is just another way to make your original movie posters last longer.
Posters Need to Be Obtained In Sets
While this is totally optional, and my own opinion (since it is so costly), everyone knows that a set of Bond (or whatever you want to collect) posters looks better than just one. However, starting with only one is better than not starting at all. It is also important to note, too, though, that these original movie posters of great movies - are not going to get any cheaper, either.
